This health-related project, close to his scientific work, investigates psychosomatic dissonance—the fraught terrain where psychological states and physical manifestations converge, conflict, and generate tension. Schmidt employs visual metaphor and symbolic language to articulate inner turbulence and the contested space between mental and corporeal realities. His methodology includes corporeal distortion, chromatic and formal contrast, and surrealist vocabulary to render visible the friction between unconscious drives and conscious experience.
The work draws strategically from historical and contemporary precedents: Expressionism’s deployment of distortion and chromatic intensity to externalize psychological suffering; Surrealism’s excavation of unconscious imagery to expose psychic complexity; and contemporary interdisciplinary approaches utilizing installation and digital media to probe mind-body relationships. Schmidt challenges conventional Cartesian dualism, emphasizing instead the fluid, often antagonistic dynamics between psychological and somatic dimensions of human experience. heal invites sustained reflection on existential complexity and the latent tensions structuring our embodied and psychic lives.
